Yoga ~ Nia ~ Capoeira
|
In the beautiful movement space at CORE/El Centro, overlooking Milwaukee's Downtown and the Walker's Point Community , women are dancing. Under the guidance of CEC staff, volunteers, and translators, they lift their arms to the sky in a gesture of universal gratitude and joy. Dance can be a joyous expression of the spirit. These people come together to enrich their bodies, minds and spirit by practicing Yoga, NIA, and Tai Chi.
"We witness people of all economic levels, all ages, and many cultures experiencing healing together. One evening in our movement space, there were women with burqas and women wearing saris, Latino women with their children, African-American parents with their teens and Anglo women together creating community, exercising and dancing, breaking down barriers within our community. These are systemic changes for which we work."
