Community and Professional Development |
This program provides training and mentoring to individuals as they develop skills in the areas of natural healing modalities, wholistic exercise, health education and office procedures. CORE/El Centro is the training ground for individuals who then take their skills into the community in voluntary and paid capacities.
The Community and Professional Development Program has been supported because:
- Members of the Latino community are being trained as professionals in natural healing therapies, as lay health promoters and as teachers in wholistic exercise classes, reaching their potential as health leaders and teachers in the community.
- Mini-health programs are being developed as a way to encourage the local community to become its own resource by educating individuals from the community about wellness and prevention.
“The first time I came to CORE/El Centro was for a massage; it was a new and a different experience for me. In this moment I could begin to open up to myself and to others. I loved it. This is also when I discovered Nia. CORE/El Centro enabled me to take exercise classes at a price that I could pay. When I wanted to become a NIA teacher, CORE/El Centro helped me to participate in the NIA Instructor’s training and other self-development classes that otherwise I would not have been able to afford. My mentor has been a big example and support to me. I know it is not just money that is important but presence and voice that matters to me. CORE/El Centro is helping me to accept my own path and not to be afraid to follow my dreams.”
