Wholistic Exercise

Exercise that takes into account a body, mind, spirit approach to movement.  In the beautiful movement studio at CORE/El Centro overlooking Milwaukee’s downtown and Walker’s Point, women, men and children are forming community as they partake in wholistic exercise classes.  Under the guidance of licensced movement instructors, interpreters, and CORE/El Centro’s staff, clients learn to move their bodies in healthy ways and find creative ways to express their emotions. 

 


Yoga consists of a variety of postures to exercise the body and breath as well as the mind.  Each class consists of mindful stretching and ends with a relaxing period, leaving you with a feeling of peacefulness and rejuvenation.  No matter your age or physical abilities, yoga uses what you have to make you healthier in body and spirit.  Beginner and intermediate classes are offered as well as kids’ classes.

Restorative Yoga is specialy designed for cancer survivors, people who are struggling with cancer and their loved ones.

Yoga and Meditation improves concentration, increases energy, reduces stress and enhances overall health. This class starts with stretching and yoga postures and is followed by various meditation techniques. Participants will learn to go beyond a thinking mode and random thoughts to quiet their brains to find peace and centerdness.

NIA is a form of exercise that combines the martial arts, dance arts and healing arts.  Nia is a cardiovascular fitness program designed for FUN!  This is an energizing, refreshing way to move “the body’s way”--- naturally.  Appropriate for all fitness levels and all ages, Nia is easily adapted encouraging students to work in comfort and ease.  

    Qi Gong, the skill of attracting vital energy, is a self-healing art that   
     combines movement and meditation. Visualizations are employed to
     enhance the mind/body connection and assist in healing.  Regular
     practice of Qi Gong can prevent and treat illness, reduce stress, 
     establish balance, and integrate mind/body/spirit thus bringing peace    
     into one’s life. 

    Pilates improves muscle control, flexibility, coordination, strength and
     tone. It creates structural alignment and muscular balance along with
     coordination of body, mind and spirit. It’s a fitness regimen that 
     combines stretching and strengthening routines with natural, fluid 
     movements, efficiently working the entire body. Exercises incorporate 
     the principles of concentration, control, centering, precision and breathing.  

Latin Dance teaches the basics of Caribbean social dances such as Merengue, Salsa, Cha-cha and Bachata. No dance partner required.

Zumba, a fusion of Latin and International music/dance themes, creates a dynamic exciting, effective fitness system! The routines features aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body.

Folk Dance, learn the popular folk dances Huapango and Jarabes. The class focuses on body senses and movement experimentation.

Nia Play is open to all but tailored for adults with significant cognitive and/or physical disabilities.  Movements are very simple and repetitive and feel more like play.

Restorative Nia is specially designed for anyone recovering from physical trauma, including strokes, accidents, cancer, and other disease.  This class is slower and tailored to individual needs to find the pleasure of movement.  Improve your balance, create new pathways in your brain, and find the JOY in moving your way.

Relaxation Techniques teaches a variety of relaxation techniques that can be used at home.

Kempo Karate teaches confidence, coordination, discipline balance and self-defense. This class is for ages 15+.

Tropical Energy is an exhilarating workout that teaches you to move to a variety of Latin dance rhythms in low impact aerobic style.

Creative Dance (3-4 yrs) teaches children how to safely move their body in fun and creative ways.

Pre-Ballet (5-7 yrs) introduces the basic principle terminologies of ballet.

Ballet (8-12 yrs) encourages children to continue to grow in their knowledge and application of ballet principles and terminology.
