CORE/El Centro History

History of CORE/El Centro

  • founded in January of 2002
  • by two women
    • who believe passionately that the most effective healing happens when natural healing modalities are integrated with traditional medical practices
    • who believe that ALL people need to have access to these holistic healing opportunities
    • who have a profound respect for the healing that occurred in her own life through natural healing methods
    • each is a natural healing practitioner
    • each felt strongly that no one should be denied access because of lack of funds or racial or cultural barriers and envisioned a healing center that would be accessible to everyone
  • Jayne Ader and Madeline Gianforte spent the next year networking to assess what the need might be and to see where the dream might be born.
  • So compelling was the articulation of their dream that they were able to attract the start-up funds and the personnel needed to form their healing center.
  • Once they secured a location on the fourth floor of the Esperanza Unida Building in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, they invited the Madison Street Clinic, a free clinic for the uninsured and underserved, to re-locate on the same floor as they were. The clinic responded to the invitation and is now known as the Walker’s Point Community Clinic.
  • In 2004 the Healing Center, a program designed for those affected by sexual assault, has also moved to the 4th floor of the same building. Together these agencies, in the heart of Milwaukee’s Hispanic community, collaborate for the health and well-being of the Milwaukee community.
  • In the past three years the volume of healing services offered at CORE/El Centro has increased six-fold.
  • CORE relies heavily on the volunteer services of professional practitioners who believe in the mission and want to be a partof the venture. Presently there are about 70 volunteers without whom CORE/El Centro could not exist.

We invite anyone who believes in this mission to join us as a volunteer in the fields of massage, energy work and movement classes. We also accept donations to help to subsidize client fees for services. You can receive more information at 414-384-2673 or at info@CORE-elcentro.org.
